Frequently Asked Questions About Family Law

What if I need to leave an unsafe situation?

If you or your children are in danger, you can ask the court for a protective order. You may also be able to get help with housing, safety planning, and custody issues.

How does the court decide child custody?

Custody and parenting time decisions are based on what is best for the child. The court looks at safety, stability, and each parent’s ability to provide care.

Can child support orders be changed later?

Yes. If your income, job, or family situation changes, you can ask the court to review and modify your child support order.
