Biography

Tomas J. Yi is a Florida attorney originally from Honolulu, Hawaii. Admitted to the Florida Bar, he earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he also served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Practical & Clinical Law and Chief Justice of the Moot Court Board.

Tomas now serves as Chief Legal Counsel for Vincentian Legal. He leads the organization’s legal department, expanding services that help veterans and families with housing matters, benefits issues, family law needs, and criminal record relief. Tomas advocates for clients who may otherwise go without representation, helping them understand their rights and access the support they deserve.

His earlier work includes serving as an Assistant Public Defender for Hillsborough County, representing indigent clients in criminal matters, as well as clerkships with the Federal Defender’s Office and Merlin Law Group, where he strengthened his litigation experience.

Outside his legal work, Tomas is active in community involvement, with service connected to the Asian American Pacific Islander Bar Association, Metropolitan Ministries, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Florida Bar. He is fluent in both English and Korean and approaches his work with compassion, cultural understanding, and a dedication to public service.
